Perfect season falls short

Although the girls varsity lacrosse team lost the Concorde District final game 14-13 to the Robinson Rams, senior attack Maya Ahronovich said the team could use it as motivation in the Northern Region Tournament.
“Even though we didn’t come out with a district title,” Ahronovich said. “Maybe that’s the motivation we need to help us in regionals.”
The team was down by three goals after the first half but came back to tie the game at 13 with five minutes to play. Read more...
Varsity baseball faces defeat

The varsity baseball team lost at home to the Robinson Rams 7-4 on May 2.
“Everything seemed to go wrong,” senior pitcher and first-basemen Patrick Moore said.
The team built a 4-2 lead and kept it until the top of the seventh inning, when Robinson scored 5 unanswered runs on just two hits.
“We allowed base-runners to get on without getting hits,” senior outfielder Chris Gentile said of the Ram’s comeback. The team used three pitchers in the final two innings alone.
Gentile contributed to the team’s 4-2 sixth-inning lead with two of the team’s three stolen bases in the third through sixth innings. Read more...

The Science Olympiad team walked away from the state competition on April 26 with a sixth place finish. The team consisted of all Chantilly students participating in the competition. Students also won awards for placing in the top five of their individual events.
Members of the team could chose to study different areas of science, such as forensics, ecology, biology and robotics, for the final competition. The Olympiad consists of lab work as well as written assessments on the different subjects.
“They all had mentors, teachers or members of the community, who helped them study and prepare,” sponsor and A.P. Environmental Science teacher Anne Fenton said.
In the past few years interest in the club was decreasing as well as their performance at the state competition.
“The leadership has really put them on track so we could do better this year,” Fenton said. See the awards...
