The Science Olympiad team walked away from the state competition on April 26 with a sixth place finish. The team consisted of all Chantilly students participating in the competition. Students also won awards for placing in the top five of their individual events.

Members of the team could chose to study different areas of science, such as forensics, ecology, biology and robotics, for the final competition. The Olympiad consists of lab work as well as written assessments on the different subjects.

“They all had mentors, teachers or members of the community, who helped them study and prepare,” sponsor and A.P. Environmental Science teacher Anne Fenton said.

In the past few years interest in the club was decreasing as well as their performance at the state competition.

“The leadership has really put them on track so we could do better this year,” Fenton said.
