After high finishes at the state competition, 12 members of Chantilly’s DECA chapter competed in the International Career Development Conference in Atlanta, Ga. From April 26 – 30. Students competed against over 14,000 other DECA members from around the world, including Guam, Puerto Rico, Canada and Germany.
The conference consisted of not only business and marketing related events, but also leadership, management and mentoring activities.
Out of the 12 members from Chantilly who competed, senior Auri Hughes was acknowledged as one of the top 20 finalists out of 250 competitors in the Sports and Entertainment Marketing Series Event. Hughes also was recognized as a top performer in the area of promotion.
Hughes, along with the other DECA members, studied his subject areas and consulted with experts in those fields to help prepare for the competition.
“It consisted of different rounds of interviewing and putting yourself in different roles related to the field and responding in a business-like manner,” Hughes said.
This was Hughes’ first year traveling all of the way to internationals for competition.
